Prof. Kazuo Maeda, M.D.,PhD,
Honorary Professor of Tottori University
Dr. Pooh has had great progress in the fetal diagnosis particularly in the central nervous system after creating new transvaginal sonographic techniques in 2D real time ultrasound, color and power Doppler flow mapping. It is marvelous to see achievements in fetal diagnosis with 3D and 4D ultrasound in the important increasing of image dimensions. The scientific progress is closely related to the clinical managements of sick babies in the womb. Birth defects are deeply related in the developments during pregnancy and most abnormalities are originated in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy and some cases are related even with gene anomalies. Therefore, ultrasound examination should be detailed in the detection of fetal condition in early periods of pregnancy, where the transvaginal technique should be such skill full as the experiences of Dr. Pooh. Her invariable efforts and activities in the abroad are extensive and they immediately promote clinical perinatal medicine and also improve the quality of life of the babies and mothers. Therefore, the works of Dr. Pooh in all means related to the happiness of the mothers and infants in Japan, and extensively in the world. First of all I congratulate the successful relation of her scientific works in CRIFM and clinical fetal and maternal medicine in Pooh’s Clinic, but at the same time I also congratulate the happiness of Japanese ladies who receive prenatal medical management in Pooh’s Clinic where CRIFM presents firm scientific basis.

It has been suggested that the three greatest contributions to modern obstetrics have been ultrasound, ultrasound, and ultrasound. This modality has permitted obstetrical care to emerge from the dark ages into an era when the fetus is truly a patient. This remarkable success has been due to international cooperation between the world's leaders in clinical care and research. Dr Ritsuko Pooh is one of the world leaders who is an invaluable component of transnational synergy. Although relatively young, she has earned respect and admiration throughout the globe for her talented contributions and insights. It is true pleasure to congratulate her on the opening of the CRIFM. The physical appearance is both functional and beautiful so that the patients who are served will receive the best technology that the world has to offer in a setting that is respectful and supportive. The doctors of the world congratulate Dr Pooh on the opening of CRIFM as this is truly a beautiful moment for pregnant women and fetal patients locally and throughout the world.
